Timing is everything...

Interesting to note that Microsoft has just announced, that the next version of Internet Explorer will contain features that just happen to block Google's targeted ads...

http://industry.bnet.com/technology/1000378/microsoft-targets-google-ad-revenues-with-new-ie-version/

By a strange twist of coincidence, Google has also announce a new product that replaces Microsoft's web browser...

Clearly, there is not much love between the two... :P

But don't make the mistake of thinking this is just another rerun of earlier Browser wars..

Not this time... because this time, Google is going to probably weave Web Apps to the browser experience.

In fact, a number of comentators, are already linking this to Googles' growing Web software platform...

The implications for the Internet as a whole, are pretty interesting.

Ps : At the moment, Chrome is limited to Windows, but I imagine Linux and OS X versions will be available soon too.

Yeah, already tried it today. It's a really nice browser and reminds me of 3 browsers at the same time - Firefox, Safari and Konqueror. Maybe that's because it derives from all three of them as it is based on engines Webkit and Mozilla.

I even tried running it under Wine (v0.9.58), but to no avail. The installer didn't even start. But I am happy to see that newer wine versions are indeed able to run it with perfection. :)

You beat me to the punch Aqua. :D

I will be very glad when some Linux devs get to work on this.

I read on Google's blog that they are already working on Linux and Mac versions of Chrome.  :)

The rendering of topic pages of our forum is horrible in Chrome. I am typing from Chrome right now!

I think I'll better inform the bug handling team about it.  :)

I forgot to let everyone know that the forum has been updated to detect Google Chrome as a browser.  :)

Aquafire on September 08, 2008, 03:37:00 AM
Re Chrome.

Thanks for updating the forum.

I will be downloading Chrome, over the next few days..

In a way, it reminds me of Firefox.

Also, its nice to see such a clean and spare interface...

Cheers

I know some might laugh at my prediction but... I have a feeling Chrome and even Flock will soon out-perform FireFox over the next year... both becoming more popular within the Linux community.
Linux devs are gonna be jumping all over Chrome and beatin the heck out of it till it submits :D

If ever Safari could or would be brought into the Linux world... that would be "the one" though. ;)

But... Google is just gonna take everything by storm over the next couple years... They have a lot of plans for Gos.... it might just become an extremely heavy contender sooner than later

I'll be waiting to try out Chrome (Linux) when it's stable and I can't wait :)

As matter of fact, Google turned 10 yesterday.

Belated Happy B'day to Google!  :D

Found an excellent tutorial to setup Google Chrome to work under Wine flawlessly. :)

It worked in my case. The only little glitch I faced was regarding the browsing speed. I'll investigate it further and let you guys know if I happen to find a good solution.
