Knoppix installation ?

Hey guys,

Has anyone ever tried to install Knoppix onto their hard drive?

If so, how did you do it...?

The internet, is littered with all sorts of oddball suggestions as to how to best go about it..

I find Klaus's attitude toward installing his distro onto a hard-drive, strange to say the least.

While his Knoppix might have been the first to usable "live" Linux Distro...

He seems to go out of his way to make installing it...a task and a half..

So if anyone knows of a fool proof way...(one that is current and usable with his latest distro) then let me know.

In my not so humble opinion (nsho?) probably the best thing to do is simply to create a persistent home and continue to run from the DVD.  I've done that and it works great (Although a bit slowly because you're running off the DVD).

  Be sure to read the "Install Warning Not To Do It."  The Knoppix on the DVD, which works great, won't work on your hard disk unless you know A LOT about Debian.  Thats because Klaus uses all three Debian categories, Stable, Testing, and Experimental.  Trying to install new software or upgrade some other item will put you into unimaginable dependency hell in a heartbeat.  On the other hand, if you're a masochist go ahead. 

The botttom line is that Knoppix is just not made to be installed, but if you have the skills - go for it.  If you want bleeding edge Debian give Sidux a try.

My knees are knocking at the thought of taking three levels of Debian head on....

Under the circumstances,  I  think I'll stick to Granular....
