I've known about LFS for a while know, but never really looked into it. It seems like a great tool to learn the ins and outs of linux, but seems complicated.

I just read the interview Anurag gave to cryingtux ( http://saleem-khan.blogspot.com/2008/06/interview-with-anurag-bhandari-founder.html ) and just learned that Granular was initially based off of LFS.

I was wondering, would it be worth the time and effort to use LFS as a tool to help me gain further knowledge about linux? I was thinking that if I did use LFS, that might help me contribute to Granular in various other ways.

Anyone else tried LFS? If so, how was your experience with it?

I have also built a distro for myself from LFS a long time ago. And I can tell you it's very advanced, and takes a great deal of time and effort. But you would certainly obtain a whole bunch of knowledge from it, but it's difficult to say the least.

I guess after I get packaging down, I can tinker around with LFS.

That would probably be your best bet. Once you learn how to compile things you'll stand a better chance at getting through LFS. As you'll have to compile absolutely everything for LFS. And trust me, and I'm sure Anurag remembers, it's a hell of a lot of compiling.

Yeah, like Chris said, do not try LFS now. It is indeed very advanced and would only confuse you at this moment. You should give it a try only after having some experience with compiling RPMs.

Alright, I will be sure to wait till I have packaging down before I start using LFS.

Im thinking I should call my "distro" Ralunarg ;)
