Hello,

I was wondering if Chrisz and Anurag would like to spend some time ( out of extreme tight schedule in making the RC ) to make Cairo-dock granular packages for us??? it would be nice to have cairo-dock along with compiz on Granular 1.0 :)

Thanks,

tux,

I don't think you could have picked a better time to ask, unless you were sitting in a chair right next to me. I'm right in the middle of compiling compiz, so sure I'll go ahead and compile this while I'm at it.

As soon as it's done, I'll upload it for Anurag to make available in our repo's. Sound good?  ;)

Yep it's already built and uploaded. Now it's just waiting for Anurag to take a look at it, and then if all is well, I am sure he will upload it. It is a rather cool little dock. Also just so you know, I only compiled it as it, so the config stuff will have to be done by you, once you have it installed. Other than that have fun with it.

Gemini,

Yes I think Aqua will love this thing, as it really does have a true mac feel to it.  ;D

This Cairo-dock thing is cool. I'll be updating the repository within the next 2-3 days or so. I'll put this dock there then only. So, stay tuned. :)

I believe it's already in the repo if you would like to check it out.  ;)

Yeah, it's already in the repo. If you could not find an entry in the menu for Cairo Dock, start it by executing the command "cairo-dock" in Konsole.

Anurag,

You have a good point there, and I forgot to mention that. That program kinda depends on beryl, and I'm not sure it the new compiz has the same features to start the program. But the dock did have, and was auto started when beryl was started.

So your correct you can start it manually. And if compiz does not auto start it, he could always add it into the auto start applications for kde.

Sorry guys I forgot about that.  :P

Thanks Guys..

My ears...were on slow burn....but I eventually got the message..... ;D

My only question at this stage is as to how it compares to other Docking systems..

Ie...is it expandable...?

and

Are we likely to add it to a Granular Distro...(along with Dolphin)..

You know........for us Macaroonies... ;)

Cheers

Aqua

Well speak of the devil! :D I just installed cairo-dock on my sidux installation yesterday and found this thread today.
I've tried various docks lately, and cairo-dock is the most "Mac-like" I've seen. AWN is nice, but doesn't do the parabolic-zoom effect nor does it have fast animations. Kooldock I haven't really tried due to me borking it by accident :-[.
