I have two printers that need packages. a Samsung clp300 printer and an HP photosmart C5280. Any chance that these might be added to the repository?

Thanks

So, foo2qpdl is the desired package?

jdbark1952 on April 12, 2008, 03:14:42 AM
That is what I found for the Samsung printer, I didn't find one for the HP, I'll look some more

OK this is what I found that is supposed to be the right one for the HP I have, HPLIP 2.8.4

jd,

We'll see when to package foo2qpdl. Regarding HPLIP, that comes pre-installed in Granular. To use it, go to:

Menu >> System >> Configuration >> Hardware >> HP Printer Toolbox

Are there directions on manually installing driver that I can download?

The best way to use an HP printer is using the HP Toolbox. It hosts of a very powerful interface which gives the user access to every feature on the printer.

Anyway, if you want to manually do it, please specify the file format of the downloaded drivers. Is it an RPM?

under
Menu >> Application>>System >> Configuration >> Hardware >> I have Hardrake, screen resize,NTFS Config, Nvidia, synaptic touchpad, video install

Found this to try

Menu >> Application>>System >> Configuration >> Printing >> HP Device Manager

I'm back editing the last post

I hit another wall, there must have been hundreds of HP printers there but mine was still not listed, HP Photosmart C5280, (4100 was the highest number in that series listed, it is the same as the one found  in the repository)

Is the driver an RPM, wish I knew what that question meant, the only RPM I know of refers  to motors revolutions per minute.

If it helps I found a download for a driver on Samsungs web page it   has  a name of "20060725141238437_lpp-1.25-68.tar.gz", I went to Samsung after I read on an Ubuntu forum that the recommended foo driver does not work well.

These are the directions given by Samsung to install, but I'm struggling with them also.

[linux Printer Driver Install Guide]

1. Make sure that you connect your machine to your computer.
Turn both the computer and the machine on.

2. When the Administrator Login window appears, type in root in the Login field
and enter the system password.

3. Download and extract the driver
[root@localhost root]#tar xzf [Downloaded File Name(XXXX.tar.gz)]

4. The driver will be extracted as ''image'' folder in current path.

5. Execute installation program.
[root@localhost root]#./image/setup.sh

6. When the welcome screen appears, click ''Next'' and proceed installation.

Which part of the above instructions did you not understand?

jdbark1952 on April 14, 2008, 08:56:22 AM
I used to get students at work I always  enjoyed them unlike most of my co workers. The reason I enjoyed them was because I remembered how little I knew when I first started working at my old   occupation. I am with linux just like a lot of the students I had at work. I know very little about it, things like the terminology are not in my personal lexicon. In other words I really do not know  much about it yet. I hope someday to not need to bother others for direction. What did I not understand about the directions? Most of it.

Sorry I'm getting frustrated with this.

step 1  I got  that one.
step 2 I assumed meant I had to be logged in under "root"
step 3 extracting the driver, was I supposed to type that in a terminal?
step 4 Ok means I sit and wait for the computer to do its thing
step 5 I have no idea where I am going to do this
step 6 Another assumption here I guess it will have a button for me to click.

To extract the archive, right-click on it, go to the Extract option, and choose any one of the resulting sub-options, preferably the second one.

After that, I guess you'll have to follow those instructions in the command-line.

That certainly simplified things. I had already tried several things with the terminal but it never worked.

I extracted, ran the program and it installed. Then I tried to print something and it almost did. I am thinking at this point I am not going to be able to use both printers, but thanks for the help.
