tux,

I think you're misunderstanding my question.

I doubt based off of what I have seen, that we can just say your web cam just does not work with granular kernels.

And that in fact it does work with pclos kernels. The last kernel I built for you to try, was a rebuild of the latest pclos
kernel. So if that did not work, I doubt your cam is working with the latest kernel in pclos as well.

Also I'm not asking for the kernel version in granular, I already know which one that is. What I was looking for was the kernel
version in pclos that you're running, in which you have the web cam running.  Wink

Sorry Chrisz,

things are getting jumbled up Smiley

1: you are right, the latest kernel from pclinuxos didnt work for my cam.

2: the only kernel that works for me from pclinuxos is the default one from pclinuxos 2008minime. I did post its details in same thread previously but i will quote them again for you here.

quote :

chrisz : Could you also provide lsusb from pclos, and what kernel you are running.

cryingtux : sure thing chrisz

here is what you asked for.

Damn I knew I was getting confused, thanks for clearing that up for me.

I am looking through a lot of files right now, cause we did have a .22, and a .23 kernel a while back that
were both good kernels. I had a feeling you were going to say it was a .22 kernel that was working. Cause
if I remember right there were some pretty big changes and upgrades from .22, to .23.

So if I can find that old kernel, and if you don't mind testing (and it sounds like you don't mind) All we will have
to do is talk to Anurag, and see if he does not mind putting that old one out there long enough for you to install it.
Then if that one works, it would help me out trying to figure out whats needed in the newer kernels to get you
up and running.

Yep I found both of the old kernels, the first one is 2.6.22.03 and the second one is 2.6.23.2

Anurag, what do you think? Or is it possible to put at least the 2.6.22 kernel maybe in the testing
section until tux can install and test it out? Let me know and if you don't still have copies of these
builds, I'll just upload both of them again.

Thanks Chrisz,

I appreciate your taking pains for my kernel issue.

If we can get any kernel similar in granular as that of 2.6.22.15.tex2 from pclinuxos , my issue will be resolved as this 2.6.22.15.tex2 of pclinuxos works fine for me regarding webcam on my pclinuxos.

I dont mind experimenting anything that resolves the issue , rather you can make me a beta tester for any package you like Smiley

regarding uploading the kernel for me to get can be made more simple even. if you have a copy of it, just upload it anywhere e.g rapidshare, mega upload, easy share, just anywhere and post me the link, i will grab it in little time, copy paste it to my cache folder and run synaptic and install it or even manually install it  just in case Anurag can`t manage it to the repo.

thanks,

Ok we can use that as a last resort so to speak. If Anurag has some free time, I doubt he will have any problem with
making it available in one of the repos. Especially if there is a chance of a resolution to the issue. So let's wait for a
little bit, and see what he says. We should be able to get it out there fairly quickly.

Ok I am uploading the .22 kernel to our ftp server so if Anurag is ok with all of this, it will already be available to him.
So it shouldn't take too long.  Wink

This sounds fair enough to me, I can sleep over it peacefully now to be little bit fresh for my patients tomorrow morning as I don`t want my patients to complain tomorrow that their doctor is groggy and confused Smiley

Another good day with Granular Linux, I wonder what more better can come in next release when it`s already perfect Smiley

Have a good day, thanks for your time, hope to hear some good news in few hours when i wake up .

regards,

No problem, get some sleep, always does good.

And based off of times, I don't think Anurag is even awake yet himself. I think normally around this time in the US, is very
early in the morning over in India. So I am sure when he wakes up, he will take a look at it.  Cheesy

Putting the older kernels in the repo would have been quite an unconventional thing. We have to follow rules for properly maintaining the repository.

But never mind, as suggested by Chris, I've moved the kernels to our download section. The kernels will be available for a weeks time and later deleted for security reasons.

Get the kernels from here:

http://www.granularproject.org/content/downloads/kernels/

I hope installing these solves your problem.

If, at any time, you find yourself needing the help to install them, just drop a reply here and we;ll help you out. Smiley

Dear Anurag,

Thanks for uploading the kernels, I will grab them ASAP and will notify you so that you can delete them.

Infact I would be needing your help how to manually install them as I would not want to kill my 100% working system by experimentation Smiley

I did try adding this link where kernels are uploaded to synaptic repositories list but it did not work , so the option left is manual installtion.

Hope you find little time to guide me how to go a flawless manuall installation.

Adding the above download link in Synaptic won't work. Download the kernel rpms and just let us know when it's done. We'll guide you with the manual installation as that's the only way to install it in this case.

Yes, the installation through synaptic wont work as the direcotry for grnaular 2008 thing which needs to be added to synaptic cant be done,

I will download the packages now and update you ASAP.

thanks
