Can you tell us the exact Manufacturer name and model number of the webcam? Meanwhile, you could try using the help from this topic:

Im attaching another screenshot for its details for you.

Misc
Module: ‎unknown
so I guess it is kernel module issue??

Thanks.

Can you check to see if you have the latest kernel installed for granular. It's something like 2.6.24.4granular2, and the granular2 would be the second one that we built after the preview release. So I am not sure if you're running it, I think this is an older issue, and we kinda got off track from it.

cryingtux on May 09, 2008, 10:11:05 PM
Thanks for your reply Chris.

Defnite my kernel is the older one i.e 2.6.24.3.granular1

Linux localhost 2.6.24.3.granular1 #1 SMP Sat Mar 1 01:40:48 CST 2008 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz GNU/Linux

so I guess i need to get the newer one and hope it works for me.

So where can I download the kernel please?

P.S I didnt find the kernel you mentioned in synaptic.

Ahhhh I see, that kernel I mentioned is still in the test section. So you can get it through synaptic, but will need to add the word "test" with no quotes to be able to see what is in that repo. Then just take the word test back out when you are done.

There are two ways to make the change. You can add that on manually in your sources.lst file, or through the gui of synaptic. Open synaptic, then go to settings, and then to repositories. Then see below, this is what mine would look like, just make sure you add it on to the granular repo. You will then just have to hit reload, and should see it as an available update.

Thanks,

While I was looking around and did find the kernel in test part of granular repo your help arrived too as I was wondering how to install it manually :)

I have 2 quries

1: should i keep the test part in synaptic repo enbaled always?

2: why cant we have irc room for granular like other distros? this will make communication more easy :)

thanks again.

Hi Chris,

before I crash to my bed, the feedback regarding the latest kernel.....it got installed perfectly but the webcam issue is still there, so I guess this issue wont resolve, may be with next kernel update????

thanks

I would also check whatever config stuff you have for granular, as compared to your working pclos version. The hardware detection should be
very similar.

As far as the testing repo, as always it's your choice. I would not leave it enabled, cause we truly use it for testing. You may even find updates
there that will not even install, while we are working on them. So I would only enable it from time to time, just to see if something may be there that you might need.

As for the irc. Anurag has expressed interest in this area based off of other requests. Then it just basically just flopped and never went anywhere.
So as the community gets bigger, I would say the irc is a real option. But to set it up now would only be focusing on the wrong things for us. We also set up a mailing list as it was requested. But have yet to see an email. We are certainly set up to be able to handle both an irc, and a mailing list. But until the community grows, and grows into using those tools I think we might have to just keep that stuff on the back burner so to speak.

But do check you config's and everything you can in your granular install. I am kinda curious, because even though our kernels and the pclos kernels are completely different, last I compared they should have been still close enough that I would think it should work.

I will also go back and check our kernel config just to make sure I did not miss something, and also to make sure we are supporting every available hopefully to cover your needs.

Also is the Generic Zc305b available in the drop down box of the device config. And then for the input
ZC301-2, and for standard NTSC??
