The Compiz-Fusion cube is too cool!.  And not just because it's nifty eye candy.  Rotating from one app to another on the other side of the cube is a snap - and you can take that with either meaning.  I really like the 3d window effects on a rotating cube too.

So, how many sides to a cube?

Six ( Thanks Anurag  ;D )

But the way the the Compiz cube is used, its only got four usable sides.

That's why Looking Glass should have much more of a future, because the number of window/app stacks laying oblique to each other is far more than four.

Looking Glass is also the closest thing linux has to the 3d desktop/tray functionality that we are seeing in Leopard and Vista.

And there are other alternatives, although I am not up to speed on their developments.

So, while the current community preference has been with Compiz, it's a no brainer.

In fact, I go as far as to say, it's an evolutionary dead-end in comparison.

Other than that, I'd like to see some sort of 3D development of the KDE Tray.

Something along these lines...but with stacked desktops/apps/

What I see in these screenshots is just exceptional and mind-blowing. But the real question is, "how far will the KDE devs go to realize these mockups?" If the kind of default KDE 4 I am going to get is similar to the screenshots, then believe me, I am going strike-off the iMac entry from my wishlist straight away.  ;D ;)

No, don't strike off the iMac, it's a delicious computer to look at and to play with. It's almost a work of art..

Other than that, I have high hopes for KDE 4. Gnome is getting a brush over, but KDE is still the most popular desktop environment for Linux users.

Plus don't forget, Xandros, Linspire and Novell, etc are going to get support from Microsoft in relation to further KDE development.

This article makes some interesting observations in regards to KDE 4 & the future of Linux.

Hmm... On the first appearance, it's a big article to read. So, I'll reserve it for future reading. But the most ironic part in the article is the website itself. It's made in aspx (Microsoft's proprietary format) and they still think Linux would take the lead. That's bold, but quite true.  :D ;D

Oh, I hadn't noticed...Anurag.

But now that you mention it... ;)

That's quite interesting... :P

The article, speaks of KDE 4 being able to fit component parts in with OS X and Windows. So that in itself is a leverage point that shouldn't be overlooked.. 8)
