lasitha,

Installing the modem through WINE would make it work only for Windows-based applications that run under Wine itself. Have you tried setting it up through Granular Control Center > Network & Internet > Set up a new interface?

dear anurag
i tried in the way u mentioned
when i selected gprs edge 3g in setup a new interface , a windoe appears as "please wait - updating apt-get file list" in the top and mentions "downloading and installing packages" within the box.
after few seconds an error massege comes as "couldnt install the  packages (comgt, ppp)!

i tried this with granular live cd insidee the rom as well, same result
any advice?

Are you connected to the Internet when you try this? apt-get is an Internet utility for installing software from our Internet-based software repositories, and as such you will need to be connected to the Internet to install the necessary packages to use your modem. If you cannot use the Internet in Granular, but can access through Windoze XP, I'm sure Anurag or Gemini will be able to tell you what to download under Windoze to transfer over to Granular to install.

In that case, download these RPM packages in Windows:

http://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2007/RPMS.main/comgt-0.32-1pclos2007.i586.rpm
http://ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2007/RPMS.main/ppp-2.4.4-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

Then, copy them to Granular, and install them using the following commands:

Quote
rpm -ivh comgt-0.32-1pclos2007.i586.rpm
rpm -ivh ppp-2.4.4-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

Although I have not tried this personally, but it should work out. After these are installed, go to Granular Control Center again to setup your Internet connection.

I am not sure,, but do ads i tell you..
konsole type  tail /var/log/messages,,  it will show out put and also show an usb modem..normally usb-modems located at   /dev/ttyACM0 location.. open kppp configuration and give modem location /dev/ttyACM0.. but one thing yoyu must keep in MIND . it must be a linmodem(linux-modem) to work on granular.. winmodems(windowsmodem) do not work easily.. for that you have to compile a driver for the device and then it might work.. :o
