HI,
My experience with Linux and BSD universe began a year ago. My first experience Ubuntu 8.04 gnome! I Why the people is excited by this Distro ( I don't know but not me)..
I'am tested fedora 9 (good and easy to install) but I have not hung either ..
Mandriva 2008 was one that really interested me by its friendliness and the control center. But it is a bit slow to start irritating .. Then OpenSuse 11.0 resembles very much a Windows finally! But easy install and very fonctionality... Look correct... Good for Lamba fist Linux experience..
Desktop BSD Wow I loved, beautiful and functional. Easy install and fast boot
Slackware 12 very fast boot WoW finally a distribution that quickly boot not forever ( installation not easy for Lamba) .. I also tested for my pleasure Mintlinux (correct with some hardware problem) Frugalware fast but no Blutooth .. Goblinx, Berry Linux Wow very good to impressed friend and family but not functional all day ..
Zenwalk 4.0 good distro and fast boot ! Not Blutooth... Look OK... No install
I tested many other Distro for just a test but most of all on imcompatibility materiels or other problem.. Some Distro is very difficul to installed Debian OUFF Good luck... I think this distro is only for professional Linux..
NOW MY FIRST CHOISE : Linux is Granular 1.0 and Sabayon 4.0 for many reason : The first is a compatibility materiel, the beautifull look and a simple control center, Good synaptic and some boot correct. Not fast but correct...
It is important to say here that the choice Desktop ! KDE is nice, easy to custom but is very slow and has some very irritating bug in daily use ...
BSD : Good note for Desktop BSD and PC BSD fast boot and very easy to use and install... Good look and top security... But a default is not good for recent config ( double and quadcore, recent motherboard )
For now I have a dual boot Windows XP and Granular ! I hope a Wine emulator more stable and take more application windows installation... That's when I'll switch to Linux full-time 100% but for the moment 70% XP and 20% Linux... For the fun 10% Desktop BSD
This is my experience with this World
