The entire globe has some sort of weird idea in their heads about "if you dont have a .com or a .net domain, then your website won't be treated professionally." Unfortunatly, now everyone thinks of this, it is the case.
What about .co.nr? .co.nr is a free domain redirection by http://www.freedomain.co.nr/

So, sign up for some good quality FREE webhosting at http://www.000webhost.com/ and then redirect with freedomain.co.nr.

Why pay money?

Well, the people who say websites with .com, .net, .org domains are professional are actually right. These are the standard domains, and most of the people who are remotely associated with Internet think of websites as .com things. Also, you won't ever find much professionally setup websites with a TLD other than these standard ones. But, of course, there may be sites which own their respective .com, but redirect to other TLD on visiting the .com domain.

Eg., wikipedia.com redirects to wikipedia.org

But this should not stop you from setting up a new site Anything can have a humble beginning. :)

And yes, you are right. For a new site, not representing a professional institution or entity, there is no point in purchasing costly TLDs. .co.nr should be sufficient there.

yeah, well .co.nr is like .co.uk or even .uk.com. I was just trying to save people money sometimes :P .co.nr is a great thing which should become more well known!

There are other services like it also, like .co.cc, .uni.cc, etc.

The advantages of paying for hosting, over free hosting, is often the loading time of your web pages, stability, storage space, maintainance , is provided, etc. Free hosting is fine, if you are not so concerned with such things. Not bashing free web hosting, it's a great option for personal type sites... but, if one is running a business.. and depends on their site to generate income, paid hosting is the better way to go. ;)
There have also been times when free hosting companies have just dropped from the face of the earth, with no explanation, or very little of it.. sometimes even a note from the owner which states.. "I can't afford to host anymore... sorry" So, when deciding on free hosting, be sure to shop around.. try to go with a company which has been around a while, and is well documented, nice user reviews, etc.
